The dust jacket is in a new mylar cover, it is not faded, clipped, or torn. The endpapers are maps relative to the book. 305 pages. Appendix. In June of 1947 the author stepped out of a twin-engined plane and stood somewhere in the immense plain of Northern Canada. He was looking for an Eskimo people who call themselve the Ihalmint, the People of the Little Hills. In the next two years the author became friends with the Ihalmint, the forty-nine survivors of a tribe which once numbered in the thousands. The next time he saw them was in 1958, they were down to a handful of confused, despairing individuals deported from their own land. This book is about their slow, painful extinction.
